Explaining the Mysteries in the Story “Lucky” by Viet Dinh Essay

Viet Dinh’s short story is about the adjustment in connection between a man and his Aunt and Uncle. Jae, the primary character in the story used to like his Uncle Sung and Aunt Kwi superior to his own folks yet out of nowhere had a difference in heart due to an episode he encountered. Jae had been working in his Uncle Sung’s store when it was ransacked one day. The looter put a weapon against Jae’s sanctuary and requested for money. In spite of the fact that the burglar had obtained the substance of the sales register, he additionally requested Uncle Sung’s wallet, taking steps to place a gap in Jae’s head. While Jae had been panicked with his present circumstance, dreading for his life, Uncle Sung went about as though his nephew were not in a hazardous circumstance, declining to give up his wallet. At long last, Uncle Sung paid off Jae $20 for his quiet. In spite of his Uncle Sung’s demand for him to keep quiet, Jae told his Aunt Kwi what truly occurred during the episode wanting to get the compassion of his Aunt. To Jae’s alarm, Aunt Kwi likewise mentioned for his quietness. Jae was just 12 years of age during the episode. While Jae’s change of heart in his relationship with his Aunt and Uncle is justifiable, there are a few puzzles in the story. To begin with, for what reason would Uncle Sung and Aunt Kwi not need Jae to mention to others what truly occurred during the theft? What might Uncle Sung achieve or get by not coming clean or by reexamining the story? Surely, Uncle Sung has nothing to do with the entire episode and he was a casualty as much as Jae might have been. Second, for what reason were Uncle Sung and Aunt Kwi still distraught at Jae 16 years after the burglary episode when it didn't generally did them any damage whether Jae recounted to the genuine story or not? Actually, they were the ones who ought to be upset for what they did to their nephew. Third, Jae’s emotions towards his Aunt and Uncle were not so much settled. The responses to these inquiries were uncertain from the story but rather I will endeavor to discover the rationale behind such activities by the characters. The response to the principal puzzle might be found in Uncle Sung’s feeling of experience. Toward the start of the story, Jae, who was likewise the storyteller, related how Uncle Sung kicked the bucket. Uncle Sung, with all his benefit from his organizations, had the option to purchase various vehicles, every one of them worked for speed. Uncle Sung kicked the bucket while driving one of these games vehicles, where he clearly lost control, most likely dashing on a turnpike. Jae held that he generally felt peril around Uncle Sung. Uncle Sung’s feeling of experience was clear during the burglary by keeping his cool notwithstanding the nearness of perilous risk that he gloated about it in a party after the theft. He even reproached Jae for acting weak during the entire occurrence while forgetting about the significant part that Jea had been held hostage. The main riddle could likewise be fathomed by Uncle Sung’s eagerness with cash. It was evident during the burglary episode that cash was more significant for Uncle Sung than the lives of his laborers, particularly of Jae who was held hostage by the looter, forcing a genuine danger to his life. Despite the fact that, the burglar was requesting for his wallet, Uncle Sung went about as though he couldn't have cared less about Jae’s life remaining in a critical state. He told the burglar that he didn't have his wallet right now despite the fact that he had it in his pocket from the start. Despite the fact that Jae wound up keeping his life, Uncle Sung wouldn't give the burglar his wallet in return for Jae’s life. That Uncle Sung held his cash more significant than all else is indicated likewise by his mentality with respect to cash. By paying off Jae, he would have liked to purchase Jae’s quietness, and by giving an enormous entirety of cash during Jae’s wedding, he wanted to conciliate Jae. Uncle Sung viewed cash to such an extent as to might suspect he could purchase individuals with it, as through the appearance of their quiet or endorsement. Note that this disposition of Uncle Sung works pair with his being courageous to explain the main riddle. By asking Jae to be quiet, Uncle Sung trusted the endorsement of the individuals who heard his rendition of the occurrence, that he would pick up their adoration by keeping his cool regardless of the alarming episode. To completely achieve this, in any case, it was significant for him to forget about the part that he put Jae’s life at risk, which additionally set aside him hard-earned cash in his wallet. Having discovered the response to the primary riddle, the answer for the second gets obvious. Uncle Sung and Aunt Kwi were as yet frantic at Jae in light of the fact that they held respect a significant perspective, despite the fact that this respect was not legitimately earned. Knowing the genuine story of what occurred during the theft and his evident refusal to keep quiet, Jae spoke to a danger to Uncle Sung’s respect. In spite of the fact that it was truly not satisfactory whether Jae recounted to the story to other people, he at any rate told it to his folks, as could be appeared with their understanding why Jae would not have any desire to see or be related with his Uncle Sung. Truth be told, the entire occurrence was the motivation behind why a strain in the all-encompassing family’s relationship created. Uncle Sung and Aunt Kwi were as yet frantic at Jae in light of the fact that, after all that they had accomplished for their nephew, he despite everything would not keep quiet undermining the notoriety his uncle endeavored to accomplish. They held that Jae’s refusal to keep quiet is an indication of his lack of regard for them as well as of his thanklessness towards what they accomplished for him and his family. Once more, it showed Uncle Sung’s demeanor towards cash, that he expected Jae and his family not to cross him by aiding Jae’s family on their business. Lamentably, the third puzzle couldn't generally be settled from the answers for the initial two riddles. Despite the fact that Jae consented to go to his uncle’s wake, it is unsure whether he had just excused his uncle for placing him in harm's way and requesting that he keep quiet. Perhaps he consented to come, similarly as he was encouraged to consent to welcome Uncle Sung in his wedding, due to his parents’ asking that Uncle Sung is as yet a relative. In any case, in his uncle’s wake, Jae told his Aunt Kwi that his uncle looked so serene. It is muddled whether this was an indication of him making harmony with his uncle or not and it doesn't resist knowing the response of his auntie. Auntie Kwi, subsequent to hearing what Jae needs to state, drove him away saying that he was careless. There are two conceivable arrangements why Aunt Kwi may have acted the manner in which she did. In the first place, she despite everything may hold resentment against Jae for being disobedient towards Uncle Sung. There is anyway an imperfection in this arrangement. It was evident that Aunt Kwi was forestalling for the connection between her better half and Jae from deteriorating through her activity during Jae’s wedding, wherein she attempted to comfort her significant other while Uncle Sung was condemning Jae before others. By keeping her better half from saying any further that may destroy Jae’s notoriety, in spite of the way that she opposed what Jae had chosen to conflict with their desires, at that point it is conceivable that Aunt Kwi no longer hold any resentment against Jae. The second conceivable arrangement why Aunt Kwi acted towards Jae the manner in which she did during the wake was that she may have discovered no genuineness in Jae. Recollect that Jae was just encouraged by his folks to go to the memorial service and it is very conceivable that Jae went simply because of this and not in light of his needing to offer appreciation and tribute for his uncle. Investigating his eyes, Aunt Kwi may have closed of this reality thus pushed Jae away while expressing her consternation towards him and his being thankless, that after all the years and after his uncle has just died, Jae was all the while unforgiving. Saying this, the answer for the third puzzle might be that Jae despite everything has not excused Uncle Sung. This could likewise be built up by the way that Jae doesn't favor of his uncle’s adventurism, as is clear by expressing that he generally realized Uncle Sung would kick the bucket in the turnpike and that he generally felt risk around him. Christopher Columbus :: Christopher Columbus Essays

Christopher Columbus, conceived in 1451, was the most seasoned child of Domenico Colombo. A dubious figure accused for the annihilation of the locals in the island he â€Å"discovered†, Columbus in any case ought to be credited with opening Europe’s eyes and ears to the Caribbean. All through his lifetime Columbus made 4 journeys to the New World.      On the main stumble on Aug. 3, 1492, Columbus cruised from Palos, Spain, with three little ships, the Santa Marã a, directed by Columbus himself, the Pinta under Martã n Pinzã ³n, and the Niã ±a under Vicente Y㠡ã ±ez Pinzã ³n. In the wake of ending at the Canary Islands, he cruised due west from Sept. 6 until Oct. 7, when he changed his course toward the southwest. On Oct. 10 a little insurrection was subdued, and on Oct. 12 he arrived on a little island (Watling Island; or San Salvadort) in the Bahamas gathering. He took ownership for Spain and, with intrigued locals on board, found different islands in the area. On Oct. 27 he located Cuba and on Dec. 5 arrived at Hispaniola. On Christmas Eve the Santa Marã a was destroyed on the north shoreline of Hispaniola, and Columbus, leaving men there to establish a province, rushed back to Spain on the Niã ±a. His gathering was everything he could wish; as per his agreement with the Spanish sovereigns he was made â€Å"admiral of the sea sea† and representative general of every new land he had found or ought to find.      On the second outing fitted out with an enormous armada of 17 boats, with 1,500 pilgrims on board, Columbus cruised from Cã ¡diz in Oct., 1493. His landfall this time was made in the Lesser Antilles, and his new disclosures incorporated the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. The chief naval officer showed up at Hispaniola to locate the principal state demolished by Native Americans. He established another state close by, and afterward cruised off in the late spring of 1494 to investigate the southern bank of Cuba. In the wake of finding Jamaica he came back to Hispaniola and found the pilgrims, intrigued distinctly with regards to discovering gold, totally messy; his endeavors to implement exacting order drove some to hold onto vessels and come back to Spain to grumble of his organization. Leaving his sibling Bartholomew in control at Hispaniola, Columbus likewise came back to Spain in 1496.      On his third undertaking, in 1498, Columbus had to ship convicts as pioneers, in light of the terrible reports on conditions in Hispaniola and on the grounds that the oddity of the New World was wearing off.

Can Reading Make A Difference

Can Reading Make A Difference Would Donald Trump have won the election if everyone in America had read Girls Sex by Peggy Orenstein and Sex Object by Jessica Valenti? Can  reading make a difference? Would more Americans  embrace Black Lives Matter if they read  Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates  or the March trilogy by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin? The ultimate lesson of 2016  shows we exist in a polarized political hellhole  because we don’t see each others reality. Would the U.S. be less polarized if we all read widely about people not like ourselves? And to be fair, I’ve listed books liberals embrace. Are liberals  willing to read books conservatives favor to depolarize the country? During the past year, I’ve read many essays  that pleaded with  Trump to read books about important issues, but it seems that won’t happen. Allen Barra at The Daily Beast wrote “The Best and Worst Presidential Memoirs” where he said, “Donald Trump’s name as author or co-author is on more than 30 volumes, which makes him, in all probability, the first American president to have written more books than he has read.” Much of what Trump tweets suggest he’s no bookworm. This reminds me of an old joke, “Conservatives are liberals who have been mugged.” I’d like to believe Some liberals were conservatives who became bookworms. I have to wonder if those Republicans who want to do away with the Department of Education secretly know  reading leads to liberalism. Of course,  conservatives do read books, even ones not written by Ann Coulter or Bill O’Reilly. The problem with us  liberals is  we believe that  evidence is on  our side and if conservatives would just study the consensus of  scientific research they would  change their minds. Well, after billions of words written about climate change, I consider that theory shot down. Robert Reich wrote, “The Life of the Party: 7 Truths for Democrats” on inauguration day which also points to the even more dreary “Democrats in the Wilderness” by Edward-Isaac Dovere. What these two essays reveal is if we want to keep  fighting for  our causes we need to read fewer fantasies and more nonfiction. In 2008 and 2012 many pundits predicted the end of the Republican party.  We know they  were wrong. And pundits writing about Democrats today will be wrong too. Conservatives have been mobilizing for decades to get where they are today. Just read Dark Money by Jane Mayer. But Trump’s success was an unexpected windfall for Republicans. Most Democrats and Republicans are diehards  â€" both  will vote for a yellow dog if that’s all they got. It’s the independent voters that swing back and forth. Independents caused this current situation. This is where liberals need to be reading. And these are the people we need to get to read liberal books. A great example of this is “I Spent 5 Years with Some of Trump’s Biggest Fans. Here’s What They Won’t Tell You”  by Arlie Russell Hochschild in Mother Jones, excerpted from her new book, Strangers in Their Own Land. Hochschild is a sociologist that studies emotions and beliefs, and her essay goes a long way to answering why 53% of white women voted for Trump. Hochschild  profiles Sharon Galicia to clearly make her point. Her essay is long but very worth reading. Hochschild has developed a little story she shows her subjects that reflect  their conservative beliefs. I hope its okay to quote because I believe it will make you understand the people we need to reach: You are patiently standing in the middle of a long line stretching toward the horizon, where the American Dream awaits. But as you wait, you see people cutting in line ahead of you. Many of these line-cutters are blackâ€"beneficiaries of affirmative action or welfare. Some are career-driven women pushing into jobs they never had before. Then you see immigrants, Mexicans, Somalis, the Syrian refugees yet to come. As you wait in this unmoving line, youre being asked to feel sorry for them all. You have a good heart. But who is deciding who you should feel compassion for? Then you see President Barack Hussein Obama waving the line-cutters forward. Hes on their side. In fact, isnt he a line-cutter too? How did this fatherless black guy pay for Harvard? As you wait your turn, Obama is using the money in your pocket to help the line-cutters. He and his liberal backers have removed the shame from taking. The government has become an instrument for redistributing your money to the undeservin g. Its not your government anymore; its theirs. This must be a near  perfect verbal Rorschach test for revealing conservative emotions because all conservatives I know constantly complains to me in this way. Hochschild says her subjects resonate deeply with this story. I consider it such a nasty idea that I hate to quote, but its exactly the concept thats blocking liberal progress. Im a bookworm, and I believe in reading. But is reading enough to get everyone to want equality for all? I think all the answers already exist, its just a matter of getting enough people to discover them by reading. I might be naive. We thought logic was behind Hillary. Would Sharon Galicia have voted for Trump if she had read Girls Sex and Sex Object? Or does all economic issues override issues of equality with Trump voters? I normally read books about feminism, racism, climate change,  overpopulation, automation,  mass extinction, wealth inequality, but these issues  may not  matter if society cant solve the core problems of Trump supporters. Trump voters arent all against liberal causes, but this is where they’ve drawn the line in the sand. I’m not sure Trump and Republicans will even help them. Im confident they will use their windfall to just take what they want  â€" money. For example, repealing Obamacare is really just a tax cut for the rich. But this puts liberals in a strange position. We must win back the independents by solving their problems. And there’s no guarantee they will reciprocate the favor by supporting our causes. Liberals will need to read everything they can to find economic solutions  for Democrats to push. This is why I read about wealth inequality and automation. The future is about the choice between giving jobs to people or machines. The rich will make more money if they can pick machines. And thats not Trump voters want. Maybe we can make a deal.

The Tell Tale Heart And The Black Cat - 786 Words

â€Å"The Tell-Tale Heart† and â€Å"The Black Cat† are two short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both stories share the elements of death and outrageousness; both have frightening night time scenes as well. In both of the short stories the protagonists of both stories seem to have very little or nothing in common. Their marital status, living conditions, and responsibilities are very different. If the reader looks more closely, the two men appear alike in many ways: both share their criminal history in flashback form. More importantly, as both characters recount their tales, they vehemently defend their sanity. These striking similarities become more vivid, and it soon becomes apparent that the two men are way more alike than believed before. In â€Å"The Tell-Tale Heart,† the nameless protagonist narrates his story from a prison cell after murdering the old man he lived with. The narrator tells us that he had no rational reason for wanting to kill the old man. He claims the old man had never did anything wrong to him and that he loved him and did not want his money. However, the old man had a â€Å"vulture eye† that horrified the narrator. The narrator was frightened of the â€Å"vulture eye† because in its outward ugliness, he â€Å"saw† his own reflection; the narrator is inwardly ugly and repulsive, for he planned and executed murder; his soul is more repulsive than the old man s eye. The reader can then interpret the â€Å"vulture eye† not as an organ of vision but as the homonym of â€Å"I.† In thatShow MoreRelatedThe Tell Tale Heart And The Black Cat1612 Words   |  7 Pagesdifferences in his works. Climate Change Is Affected By Cars - 1704 Words

Climate change can be prevented with proper equipment like weather radars, but society also has to listen to the experts when they provide them with information. According to Tori Jennings Climate change mitigation is too reduce or prevent a future global climate change (Jennings, 2011). For example, when global warming was first talked about by experts, they had mentioned that factories and cars should be used less because pollution would have an effect on global warming. According to Palmer, Climate change is affected by cars because of the pollution vehicles create. Some toxins that are released by a vehicles exhaust are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons (Palmer, 1911). These are just a few that are affecting our†¦show more content†¦Nuclear plants; even though they create a power source for our daily life’s, it also produces mass pollution that affects our climate. Climate change can be caused by many different things for example, the differences of solar radiations that’s received by the earth, volcanic eruptions, plate tectonics and human activities have also influenced climate change are often talked about as global warming (Jennings, 2011). Scientist have been trying to figure out the past and future climate by making observations and using theoretical models. There is a climate record of earths past and to this day scientists are continuing to add information. The geological evidence is from cores removed from ice that’s been accumulated, stable-isotope, glacial process and other investigations of sediment layers (Jennings, 2011). Climate change is it a naturally occurring or is it caused by humans? Every person has a different point of view on this, that is if they have an opinion on it. Personally, climate change does occur naturally, but also humans have been contributing to it. For example, the drought in California is it because people use too much water or is it a natural climate change. If we don’t have any rain and it is too hot, then droughts will occur. Greenhouse gas contributes to climate change. Humans contribute to climate change, ways they contribute to it is with the burning of fossil fuels and the transformation of forestry

The Nursing Shortage Free Essays

Melisa A. Smith Dr. Kathryn Skulley Eng 122-500 22 November 2011 Crisis in America Back in the late 1930’s, American men were drafted to go off and fight in World War II while women at home had to learn a new way of life to support their families and support the soldiers. We will write a custom essay sample on The Nursing Shortage or any similar topic only for you Order Now A woman named Florence Nightingale who was recognized as one of the first nurses to care for the wounded soldiers during the Crimean war helped to influence other women to learn how to become nurses and care for the sick and wounded. After the war ended in the mid 1940’s, thousands of soldiers returned home to begin the next chapter in their lives by starting a family while women returned to homemaking. In fact, due to the major population shift after the war, thousands and thousands of babies were born in which it would be named the Baby-Boomer generation. Now fast forward to the year 2010, several decades later, the baby-boomer generation is aging and approaching there sixties and beyond at a time when healthcare is beginning to be used more frequently by many others. Now that America is beginning a new era of healthcare with the creation of healthcare reform that soon will create access for the uninsured and underinsured to gain access to healthcare treatments. On March 23, 2010, â€Å"The Affordable Care Act† was signed into law by President Obama that would create healthcare access for millions of Americans. This is turn would create a huge strain on the American healthcare system at a time when concerns are rising due to the increased need of services for the baby-boomer generation and the current nursing population to care for them. You can read also Coronary Artery Disease Nursing Care Plan If Americans already planned on facing a nursing shortage with the baby-boomer generation, then how would the shortage affect everyone else when healthcare reform becomes active in the year two-thousand-fourteen? This paper will discuss some individual points more in detail and evaluate the nursing shortage situation from the beginning of nursing history to present day that could affect all healthcare workers now and in the future. The nursing shortage topic in America has always been a debatable question where it will be analyzed further in detail starting with some statistical data. Looking at the national level for current nursing employment, the U. S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics stated that, â€Å"2,655,020 registered nurses were currently employed as of May two-thousand and ten† (U. S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics: Occupation section). The information presented here did not account for self-employed nurses or one’s that currently work multiple jobs. Now on a smaller scale looking at the State of Colorado’s population and registered â€Å"nurses per 1000 rate is 7. 98 as compared with a national average of 8. 6 with an additional need of 1,780 nurses to meet the national average† (The Demographic Challenges Facing Colorado’s Health Care Workforce 15). The information noted here did not account for rural areas and small towns where the population is considerably lower. Next, the discussion will continue on about nursing school factors affecting the nursing shortage. Additionally when someone is attracted by the potential for a nursing career and advancement, they must look at all avenues first before deciding and making a commitment to nursing school. However, when someone has made the decision to enroll they must take several prerequisite classes and take a nursing entrance exam before being accepted into a nursing program. Furthermore, after students have taken the required prerequisites, they may not easily be accepted into a nursing program because of limited number of slots available and teaching constraints. In fact, it has been well observed by many schools that the major factor in the nursing shortage is due to the lack of qualified nursing instructors. In the United States, â€Å"nursing schools turned away 67,583 qualified applicants from baccalaureate and graduate programs in 2010 due to insufficient number of faculty, clinical sites, classroom space, clinical preceptors and budget constraints† (2010-2011 Enrollment and Graduations in Baccalaureate and Graduate Programs in Nursing 2). Another factor that contributes to the nursing shortage is that nursing faculty members and educators are being lured away from colleges by higher compensation, which in turn reduces the number of potential educators to meet the demands needed. Consequently, most educators are generally older with a limited number of years of teaching left before retirement which in turn could also leave more potential nurses waiting on a list that could reduce the national shortage. Furthermore, the United States started facing some major healthcare challenges with the baby-boomer generation beginning to impact the healthcare system in two-thousand ten. Now that this generation is in their sixties many of them will be facing increased health problems due to aging thus putting a greater demand on the healthcare system for treatment and prevention. Consequently, this generation will begin turning sixty-five at a rate of approximately ten thousand baby-boomers per day for the next nineteen years starting in the year two-thousand eleven. This in turn will create a huge stressor to the already problematic nursing shortage. In addition to the baby-boomer generation, America will soon be forced to provide healthcare to millions of individuals who previously did not have insurance starting in two-thousand fourteen when the Affordable Care Act goes into full force. Furthermore, â€Å"healthcare reform will soon provide subsidies for thirty-two million citizens to more fully utilize the healthcare system† (Joint Statement from the Tri-Council for Nursing on Recent Registered Nurse Supply and Demand Projections 2). This in turn will create a huge stress on the medical profession especially the nursing sector, as the healthcare system is grappling in the shortage of nurses to care for the baby-boomers. Emergency rooms and physicians’ offices will soon be faced with a massive influx of patients to provide care for, which would cause an increased demand for more medical staff including nurses and physicians. Patients then would be going to local hospitals for elective surgeries and diagnostic testing which would cause a surge and a need for more hospital beds to accommodate the needs of patients. When the demand exceeds the amount of resources available people could be facing other challenges such as emergencies or disasters of magnitude. With the introduction of the healthcare reform and the baby-boomer generation, the healthcare system could also be facing emergency preparedness scenarios that have not been attempted before with the combination of emergency disaster plans currently available. Some may remember the hundreds killed and injured from the two-thousand eleven tornado outbreak or the terrorist attacks on the twin towers that caused mass casualties and injured numerous people on September 11, 2001. This is just to name a few disasters that America was impacted by with the need for emergent healthcare services. Additionally in the United States, â€Å"there is little flexibility for unanticipated fluctuations in patient acuity and demand on a daily basis, and an absence of standby capacity for large-scale emergencies† (McHugh 442). Consequently, if the United States doesn’t come up with a large scale disaster plan that has been attempted before, then many will be faced with total destruction and demise. Nurses have gone through the grueling process to begin and succeed in their careers from the dedication of going to school to meet entry level standards, as well as taking the national licensure examination prior to practicing. Some nurses graduate with the expectation that the wages and demands of the job will be satisfying to keep them in their current role. But some people may know very little about the profession until they are faced with the reality of the job demands versus the salary. A new graduate nurse just beginning his/her career maybe making less than the more experienced nurses, but still held to the standard of providing the same type of care to all patients. According to the U. S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the national median wage for registered nurses as of May two-thousand ten was â€Å"$67,720 annually† (U. S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wages). However this statistic did not report the level of education held other than the title of registered nurse. Furthermore, nurses are held to a high standard to uphold to their duties and continue to give accurate, compassionate and safe care to all patients. Nevertheless, nurses play many roles other than a care-taker or pill pusher, they are expected to know about possible medication interactions that could harm a patient since they are the last line of protection for patient. Nurses have also been trained to think critically in times of crisis and to intervene with life-saving interventions without the supervision of a physician. Many of the â€Å"hazards on the job, include blood and body fluid exposure as well as musculoskeletal injuries related to ergonomic hazard from lifting and repetitive tasks† (Stone et al. 1984). During times of busy patient demands, nurses may also run the risk of harm to themselves, especially during the administration of an injection that could cause a needle puncture that may potentially be from an infected needle, or come in contact with the splashing of body fluids on exposed skin. However, many hospitals have currently up-graded equipment to help prevent unwanted needle stick exposures through the use of needle free systems, but there is still work to be done to keep nurses and patients safe. Furthermore, nurses may also be exposed to occupational injuries while lifting a patient in bed, or when a patient falls on a staff member and injures them in the same turn as well. Obviously some hospitals have improved the safety for staff, and patients with the use of lifts or ssistive devices, but time maybe of essence. With this in mind, the physical and mental demands of the nursing profession may take a toll on a person’s body, or it may potentially provoke thoughts of a career change from the risks involved. However, since nurses are also held accountable for mistakes made even when times are proven difficult, in hind sight turn this could potentially create a stressful environment full of expectations without satisfaction. Furthermore, â€Å"nurses’ working conditions have been associated with medication errors and falls, increased deaths, and spread of infection, but nurses report making more errors when working shifts greater than twelve hours, working overtime, or working more than forty hours per week† (Stone et al. 1984). In some hospitals nurses are given an assigned number of patients to care for, but patients are coming into the hospitals’ sicker than in previous years which can create a dilemma when assigning patient care. Some hospitals’ have been designated as a Magnet hospital where the maximum ratio is one nurse to five patients which could help ease some demands to be able to provide better care to patients, but this trend is still new to some healthcare systems. On a typical working shift nurses are responsible for medication administration, physical assessments and general care of the patient, but during times of staffing shortage nurses may have to provide all the care for all assigned patients. Generally speaking, nurses care for four to eight patients per shift while â€Å"an additional patient within this range was associated with a seven percent increase in the odds of dying within thirty days of admission and a seven percent increase in the odds of death following complications such as shock or pneumonia† (Keenen 1). In addition patients have a greater risk of infection due to lack of adequate infection control from proper hand washing by healthcare staff when staffing shortages occur. When nurses are held accountable for a certain number of patients, and one person falls out of bed down the hall while they were getting another patient up to the bathroom can create an unsafe and unsatisfactory environment for all involved parties that in turn can cause higher morbidity in patients. With a stressful environment and combined fear of making a mistake which would result in punitive action against them, â€Å"the U. S. healthcare system contains a safety climate which blames individuals for errors instead of the system or organizational failures that may really be at fault† (Fox and Abrahamson 235). With that said, more nurses feel pressured to not make any mistakes instead of being human. However, when hospitals’ are dealing with staffing issues and nurses are not able to give proper attention to their patients this in turn could create a dangerous situation for patients that have an increased mortality risk due to complications or co morbidities. Studies have shown that staffing insufficiencies increase the mortality risk in patients due to the inability to adequately care and educate patients on complications such as pneumonia or bloods clots which can be proven fatal. Nurses are also expected to perform many tasks that include life saving techniques in critical situations, but in order to keep these individuals with these skills employed by a specific facility it takes a clever approach to nursing retention. However, â€Å"research shows that nurses contribute heavily to the quality of patient care, reimbursement based upon performance outcomes would likely increase the economic value of nurses, thus improving wages, work environment and recruitment and retention† (Fox and Abrahamson 235). In the past, when hospitals were dealing with nursing shortages some would offer a sign-on bonus or a contract to pay for a portion of education expenses as an incentive to attract employees for difficult to recruit positions such as night shifts. Due to cost constraints some facilities were beginning to do away with sign-on bonuses and offer other assistance after a specific time period of employment. On the contrary, most facilities do not recognize nurses with compensation based on performance other than an increase in cost of living wages, but could benefit further through increased recognition programs. Since World War II the nursing profession had always been a female dominant profession until now, with the addition and encouragement of male nurses in the profession. Most patients saw nursing as a female dominant profession due the delicate nature of caring for sick patients and the need for gentle interactions and nurturing. Furthermore, working conditions were often poorer in nursing with a predominately female occupation. During times of economic recession more nurses were choosing to work, or continue employment to help meet the financial expectations of their households especially in times when other family members are facing a layoff or furlough. Although when the economy improves the shift of nurses actively working may change and create an even bigger nursing shortage while some may change careers or retire all together. Furthermore, with the introduction of men in nursing things have begun to change and more and more men were joining the nursing profession for career stability and advancement opportunities in an already female dominant profession. A man named James Derham â€Å"in 1783 who was a slave earned money to buy his freedom by working as a nurse† making him the first male nurse (Bonair and Philipsen 19). Nursing schools began offering scholarships to male nursing students as a way to attract more people to the nursing profession. With men in a female dominant profession they were making up â€Å"five to ten percent of the workforce in the UK, USA and Canada† while in the nursing profession they were more likely to be promoted into leadership roles (Brown 120). Male nurses generally started a nursing career at a younger age compared to their female counter parts. As working nurses were getting older many of them were planning for retirement at a time when a majority of people were retiring with the baby-boomer generation. More and more people began to choose a nursing career later in life, so consequently most nurses ended up retiring earlier due to the strains of the job or age factors. Consequently, the average age of nursing students graduating was thirty-one, while the average age of the working nurse is forty-six years old. Due to the popularity of nursing for some it is becoming a second career for individuals after many years of employment in other fields such as business, or computer industries that have had many changes and layoffs that contributed to the employment shift. With this new employment shift new nurses that began a nursing career as older adults are not working in the field as long and retiring sooner. Furthermore with the short periods of nursing employment, this again creates problems with fixing the nursing shortage across the country. Now that the factors of the nursing shortage have been described in detail, the next discussion will be about ways to fix the nursing shortage problem in America from the faculty shortage to loan forgiveness programs. If America is going to get out of the nursing shortage crisis the first step is to address the shortage of educators, and nursing faculty that teach and train the future nursing students. In order to create an interest in teaching there needs to be some changes with regards to income levels, and more education assistance to give nurses the ability to increase their knowledge. Some hospitals ffer opportunities to take a leave of absence from their jobs to pursue further education options without the fear of job loss. However, this in turn would not only be an asset to the individual but the facility as well that encouraged their employees to seek more education. Another factor in the nursing shortage is the number of clinical sites needed to give adequate clinical experi ences for nurses to learn in. In hospitals today nursing schools generally have clinical experiences five days a week instead of an additional two days on the weekend to meet more needs of clinical experience time. By offering the additional two days per week, nursing students would meet their clinical expectations ahead of schedule therefore they could graduate earlier and begin nursing practice sooner. This in turn would help to ease the shortage of trained nurses sooner and decrease the waitlist time for entrance into nursing school. In order to attract more nurses to continue advancing their education there needs to be more monetary compensation to pay for the cost of education in order to encourage more nurses to advance into teaching. Furthermore in order for the healthcare system and colleges to meet the recruitment demands and the shortage requirements there needs to be some collaboration between facilities for education and tuition assistance. Consequently to address the aging of the nursing faculty, more people need to be encouraged to continue their education without any lapse of time after graduation. Nevertheless, since most nurses cannot afford to pay for the higher expenses of college and continue to work then only a selected few would advance their education. However, some nurses may choose not to continue their education due to conflicts with work schedules and family, unless there was some loan assistance or forgiveness program widely used. The United States currently has loan forgiveness programs that pay the entire amount of the loan after requirements are met. Furthermore, after a nurse has completed two years of service in a hospital then they can apply for the loan forgiveness program that may take up to six months before a decision is made, and only a limited number of individuals are selected. In addition, if the United States invested in more healthcare facilities and offered more loan assistance and scholarships then people would be more attracted to the nursing profession and possibly reduce the nursing shortage. In conclusion, after discussing the many challenges that the nursing profession faces, it is still considered a highly respected field by many but may not be the choice for everyone. However, until the United States aggressively pursues a solution to the nursing shortage, better wages, and working conditions, then healthcare reform will define the critical needs of nurses that may end up costing more lives than money. In the end, if the nursing shortage continues, it could be catastrophic to American society at a time when healthcare has made so many advances to increase the life expectancy rate. Price Elasticity of Demand in Economics-Myassignmenthelp.Com

Questions: 1.As a producer, why is it Important to consider the Price Elasticity of Demand of your product when setting the price you are going to charge? 2.Explain the difference between comparative advantage an absolute advantage. Answers: 1.Introduction A producer who is rational will want maximum profits. (Elasticity, TR and MR)This guides all his decisions about pricing and costs. We use this guide to determine how profits are affected by demand elasticity for a good that the producer sells. Anaysis Profits are defined as the difference between revenues and costs. Demand elasticity affects only revenues, so that its effect on profits will depend on the effect on costs as well. If we ignore costs for a moment then it is clear that the marginal effect of price rise on revenues is given by Marginal change in revenues (MR)/ marginal change in prices = P( 1- e ) where e is demand elasticity in absolute terms. When demand is elastic e 1 so that ( 1-e) is negative , which implies that price and marginal revenue are negatively related. Any price rise will cause revenues to fall. When demand is inelastic e 1 so that ( 1-e) is positive , which implies that price and marginal revenue are positively related. Any price rise will cause revenues to rise, which contributes to higher profits. (Imperfect Competition ) Conclusion Thus we can argue that each producer has limited power over his profits. He may be able to control his costs but the revenues part depends partly of the nature of good and the market structure that he operates in. This implies partial control over profits,. Ideally a producer will want to face inelastic demand that allows him to raise revenues with prices increases 2.Introduction The concepts were first introduced to explain trade among nations. Ricardo is credited with comparative advantage concept (Comparative advantage) , which was better able to explain the trade direction than absolute advantage. Both are based on differences in ability to produce, which is related to resource level and technology. Anaysis A nation is said to have an absolute advantage over another nation in terms of a chosen good, if it can produce more of that good as compared to the other nation. Sometimes this is translated into cost so that the nation which has lower production cost has an absolute advantage in that good. The concept of comparative advantage is explained in terms of opportunity costs. (Comparative advantage) The latter looks at the sacrifices that need to be made in order to produce a good, in a world where resources are limited. An economy that makes lesser sacrifices will have lower opportunity costs of producing a good and accordingly enjoys comparative advantage in production of this good. In a way, this concept measures efficiency ofa producing good by two nations in relative terms. Take an example, consider a teacher who is trained in teaching English to kindergarten students and also learns about computer hardware in her spare time via part time courses. If she compares herself with a student at the computer class, then she may enjoy absolute advantage in terms of teaching and repair of computers. This is because she is trained to be a teacher, and has better understanding of computers due to her personal interest in them. But she enjoys comparative advantage in teaching, and the student in repairs work. This s because the opportunity cost of her repairing computers is low, as she is better trained to be a teacher. The student has no other skill except repairs, which gives him a lower opportunity cost of repairing than the teacher. Conclusion Both theories are based on strict assumptions which may not be found in real life , but serve as a good starting point for explaining trade direction. Comparative advantage is better as it looks at relative strengths of nations, rather than absolute differences alone. References Comparative advantage. (n.d.). The Deer Essay Example For Students

The Deer Essay It was the middle of summer in a small town called Harvey, in the city of Marquette, Michigan. The road driveway to my families cabin is really long it takes about a half-hour just to get to the cabin. Our camp is a very little, quaint, one bedroom in the middle of the woods. There is a creek the flows around our land, which is about 8 acres. About a half a mile away there is a rundown cabin that we call Jacks house. My dad always said that there was an old man Jack, who lived there. He would tell us that Jack would watch us at night while we were asleep. We will write a custom essay on The Deer specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Supposedly there was a rumor that he ate humans and animals for survival. He even told us that there were bears all surrounding us, but I never actually saw one. We usually go there on weekends during the summer for a vacation away from the city, but sometimes we end up staying longer. There isnt really much to do out there, so if we dont go to town, we go to Presque Isle Island near our camp. It is located in Marquette, Michigan, on Lake Superior, which is one of the coldest and biggest of the five Great Lakes. There are large rocks out there that we climb called Black Rocks. Besides the rocks there are a couple of parks with swings and slides, and a nature path that has a few site lookouts. It is so peaceful out there that all you can hear are the sounds of nature. As I pulled up in my car, I stopped and began to get out to go for a walk on the nature trail. As I looked up, I saw the deer. There was something about the way his helpless eyes gazed at me. I slowly started to approach him. It looked as if he had no hope for his life left. His hair was very thin but rough around his neck and legs. There was dried up blood above his left eye it seemed as if he were in a harmful fight with another deer recently. I slowly and calmly continued to walk towards him trying, as much as possible, not to frighten him in any way. Its ok, I wont hurt you. I want to try to help you live and be healthy. I said. As I got closer to him I could see felt covering two bumps on the top of his head. It was his antlers, which were just beginning to grow for his own protection and survival during the bitter cold winter that lay ahead of him. His body was extremely thin and fragile. I could not distinguish if he was very old, young or just sick. I gradually placed my hand out in front of his nose so he could smell me, as you would for a cat or dog. I had this weird feeling inside, a feeling of love and warmth. For some reason he trusted me more than anyone else. I thought maybe there was something that he knew about me. I had never seen or even been this close to any wild animal in the woods or the city like this. I was used to being around some domestic animals, not deer. My mom, my brother, and my boyfriend all tried to approach the deer, but it would back away, as if it was frightened of them but not of me. My whole life I have always loved animals. My dream, ever since I was a little girl, was to help animals in any way that I could, even if I was just brushing my dogs teeth, or clipping my cats nails. I dont know how some men and women could ever want to hurt these innocent animals by hunting them for food or pleasure. They are a living and breathing mammal that is here for a reason, just as you and me are. The deer seemed content with me. I must have had some thing about me that made him feel this way. After he sniffed my hand for awhile, he brushed his body against my side softly. .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb , .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .postImageUrl , .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb , .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:hover , .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:visited , .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:active { border:0!important; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:active , .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u283d790e2345cb72f368f35dc55b95bb:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Ethics In Criminal Justice - Forgiveness EssayIt was amazing the way he felt so comfortable with me, like no other animal has before. He totally trusted me for some reason, and I dont know why. I bent over and picked some weeds from off of the ground so I could feed him. After he finished licking my hand, he watched me to make sure I kept giving him more and more to eat. He inhaled it so quickly, as if he hadnt eaten in awhile. Step by step, I grabbed some more weeds and other greens to feed him. I tried to walk away after about fifteen minutes of feeding him, but he would follow me wherever I would go. He didnt want me to go and if he had to he would follow me everywhere. He even followed me onto the lookout site. I called him and snapped my fingers to try to get his attention so I could get him off of it. As he walked behind me I would pull and bend the branches of trees he couldnt reach down, so he could eat the leaves off of them. As the leaves gradually started to be scarce, I saw this lady back in the depth of the woods with four original deer and one albino deer around her. I walked up to her. She had about three buckets filled with corn. She said she fed the deer everyday through all of the season, whether it was very hot or extremely cold. The lady gave me a bucket to feed the one that had been following me. I knelt on the grass and he sat next to me while I hand fed him for about another hour. As much as I wanted to stay there with him forever, I knew I couldnt. I dont really know why the deer acted this way towards me. I must have made him feel very secure and content with me. Some people think I have an aura about me that somehow attracts animals to love and trust me so much. Animals make me feel so good about myself. They always seem to make me feel good about myself. I feel they actually know I am on this earth for someone or some reason. My dream was to be a veterinarian for large animals such as this. Until about four months ago I worked in a veterinary hospital to get field experience. While I was working there I had a major allergy attack and was in the hospital. They said there is really no way I could ever be a veterinarian and be happy. If I did decide to be a veterinarian, I would either be miserable, or be on medication all of the time. I now try to find a way to be around animals without being a vet. Such as I go to Presque Isle just to visit the deer and other little creatures out there.

The Puritan Perception of God and Religion essays

The Puritan Perception of God and Religion essays A primary part of American fate is shaped by the first Puritans who landed on the shores of New England, Massachusetts. Exiled from England, their agenda was strictly religious. Religion and spiritual inspiration went hand in hand as it ultimately became a guide for the New World ("The Pilgrims"). The Puritans settled where they created a philosophy that was essential in the shaping of religion in America. They merely wished to influence others by their concept of faith, the particular idea of the covenant with God and the belief that one's destiny was predetermined. Their mission was to create a godly community demonstrating a life of passion and fellowship that would be symbolic to Puritans worldwide. The events that lead to the settlement of New England at Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay derived from the religious conflict that began by Martin Luther's Reformation movement and the formation of the Protestant Church ("People After being established, the Pilgrims set out to fulfill their primary goal, the establishment of a more pure church. Analyse why the requirements for patentability of an invention are so Essay

Analyse why the requirements for patentability of an invention are so strict. Explain, with reasons, whether this is justified - Essay Example (Brettell, Barker). A Patent is defined as a legal document granted by the government giving an inventor the exclusive right to make, use and sell an invention for a specified number of years. The endeavour of the patent system is to encourage inventors to advance the state of technology by awarding them special rights to benefit from their inventions. Patent Law has also been extended to cover Computer programs and various living organisms, such as specialized mice used in cancer research. A recent trend in the field of Patent Law is the extension of patentability to new ways of doing business for example; the method of conducting an auction on the Internet is patented. With respect to books, movies, and works of art the law of copyright is applicable. (Schechter, Roger E).1 First, it must be novel in the sense that the invention did not have prior existence. This will be determined by the patent examiners who will make all efforts to determine the nature of the invention and if they find that the proposed invention had already been described in previous patents or written about in scientific magazines, then they will declare that the invention has been â€Å"anticipated.† Whenever it is concluded that such an eventuality has transpired then in such cases, the patent will be denied. The following case law illustrates this point: Secondly, the invention must not be obvious, which implies that the invention must be a significant improvement over the existing technology. Rudimentary changes to previously known devices do not qualify an invention for a patentable invention. The relevant case law in this regard is as follows: These decisions clearly show that unless the inventive step is new and non – obvious a patent will not be granted. The stringency of the patent act is clearly illustrated here and no exceptions are

While I was working there as an assistant I had very strong passion to learn more about the international business and I participated in many of training lessons about the international business. The company saw found me as an employee who has very strong passion for the job and the company had given me the opportunity to be promoted as a purchaser. On the position as a purchaser I got a lot of responsibility for my job. My main duties were to select the right products for the Czech market, prepare the purchase orders under the proposed budget, supervise the planned turnover and sales plan, work on the budget based on previous sales statistics and achievements, monitor the stocks, determinate sales prices, discounts and clearance sales, monitor competitors, negotiate contracts and policies with suppliers and analyse the market and customer needs. At this part of my duties I found myself very strong in numbers and I achieved very good results in budgeting, planning of turnovers and in choosing the products. As I mentioned I worked in the international company with the head office in Austria and I realised I was limited with my major managers in my plans and decisions and sometimes I wasnt able to enforce my ideas and I had to follow the decisions of my major managers even I knew the Czech market very well. Here I found out myself as a not enough strong employee and I was also missing the support from my boss. The next part of my duties was to coordinate with the marketing department. Our cooperation was about to visualize the company with products what we are offering to customers. The cooperation was about to prepare the plan of the marketing activities with the right products and with the combination of best quality and price. During the cooperation with the marketing department I found out that I have to learn more about the marketing principles and how to get the customer attention. In this company I worked 9 years and I really enjoyed the time. I learned a lot and I found out about me that I am very responsible person with the passion of the learning new things and for this reason I decided to improve my knowledge and skills with the study based on program Master of business administration and to improve and avoid the gaps in my path to be a successful professional purchasing manager. After the graduation in the course Master of business of administration I want to come back in to the same field purchasing. A period of greater political uncertainty has occurred in the world. The impacts on global economic growth and business performance might come from different sides of the world. The European Union is expecting the Elections in the largest Eurozone economies (Italy, Germany, and France) which can affect and threaten the existence and connection of the European Union. The migration crisis in Europe has been continuing and the opinions of the voters are more radical consequently to the migration crisis. Probably soon the Great Britany will apply for the process of the leaving the European Union. There is a question Will survive the European Union or will dissolve? after leaving the Great Britany. A divided European union will be big advantage for Russia to consolidate Russians influence in its borderlands. Mr Trump promises he will back away from overseas obligations and get the rest of the world to do more across the globe. Importantly, the strong US economy will almost certainly result in higher official US interest rates. This will present difficulties for those countries, including Australia, that are dependent on inflows of foreign capital. For Australians, the biggest concern is an adverse impact on our major trading partner, China. Continued strength in Asian economies is particularly important for both commodity prices and the world economy because of the likely problems in the European Union. (ref. http://www.smh.com.au/money/investing/the-outlook-for-the-australian-economy-and-investors-in-2017-20161208-gt739k.html ; 16.03.17) 2017 might be a period of uncertainty. Caution will be needed. In this part of my LD plan I will focus on the industry Wholesale and Retail trade in the profession as a purchaser. The internet website Joboutlook.gov have published national statistics about Wholesale and Retail trade in employment conditions. The national statistics have indicated that the job offerings in Purchasing and Supply Logistic Clerk are expected to be more than average for the next 5 years. They are talking about 25.000 50.000 job offerings. The job prospects for this occupation will be steady for next 5 years in comparison with the previous years. Purchasing is very large occupation with the availability of jobs opportunities in most regions. The proportions of full time jobs in purchasing are above average. (ref. http://joboutlook.gov.au/occupation.aspx?code=5911search=industryTab=prospects ) PEST Analysis of Wholesale and Retail trade   Ã‚   (P)olitical The wholesale and retail trade might be influenced by political factors as tax, the stability of the country, legislations. (E)conomical The wholesale and retail trade has been influenced by the economic growth, unemployment policy, consumer confidence, inflation, interest rates. (S)ocial-Cultural environment The Wholesale and Retail trend in social-cultural environment might be influenced very strongly by lifestyle changes, demographic, population growth, living conditions, income distribution, fashion changes and foreign investment. (T)echnological environment Innovation of technology, changes in information technology, supply chain mechanism Goals I have acquired the essential experiences as a purchaser and I have had very good background of purchasing to improve my knowledge in my profession and to become a manager of purchasing. My goals I can divide in two periods such as short term goals and long term goals. In the case of the short term goals one of the goal is to continue with the study Master of business administration and to decrease my gaps of knowledge and skills for the future employment, which I found out through the LD application. Next short term goal is to be the part of purchasing in any organisation or institution in Sydney such as an employee or to get an internship in any organisation or institution. I will keep going with searching and applying for the job in the purchasing department. After graduation at APIC institution I will aim for my application of temporary residence which will make me able to work full time. With full time work rights I can get job as a purchaser or I will try to be promoted in current company. But I dont limit myself with the thought that I have to stay in Australia. I will try to apply for the manager position in other countries with the well economic stability. Every professional has to identify and acknowledge personal values. We can identify plenty of values but I will concentrate on the common values of professionals. A problem solver: as a professional in any company we have to solve a problem after next problem. A good problem solver will concentrate on the finding the right solution than to prove if she/he is right at all costs. Good problem solvers will see the problems as challenges and to experience from them. They know how to easy define the problem and they dont build the issues for others. Ambitious people always see new goals and they have the drive to achieve them. Transparent: the value to be transparent through the behaviour such as honest, open and direct in any conversation help to reduce the wasting of the time. The skill to sympathize the problems that others deal with is a character which I really admire. (ref. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/246480 ; 19.03.17) Focused: if we are focused and we dont do too many things in one time we will do something really well. In environment where people are focused and putting the emphasis on this value will spend their time more productively. (ref. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/246480 ; 19.03.17) Be respectful of confidentiality Set good examples This case study measures my Socio-Cultural competencies in percentage and the graph compares my current competencies vs. my targeted competencies. Judaism religion and practices Essay

Judaism is a religion that is practiced mostly by the residents of the Jewish country, all followers of Judaism whether they are born in the Jewish country or not are called Jews. Judaism is the Jews monotheistic religion which traces its genesis to Abraham, its ethical and spiritual principles are engulfed mainly in the Talmud and the scriptures of the Hebrews. This religion is mostly characterized with the traditional rites and ceremonies of the Jewish people and religion. Its practices are also deeply rooted in the religious, social, and cultural practices of the Jewish people who consider themselves as one community or people (Steinberg, 1965). Judaism religion and practices Judaism is based on the premises of monotheism, the belief of a special covenant with the almighty God that makes the Jews to claim that they are the God’s chosen people. It is also based on the territorial and ethnic identity, whereby the territory of the Jews is known as the Promised Land. This religion has specific laws and practices. The origin of Judaism finds its roots either from the formulation of monotheism by Moses or God’s covenant with Abraham, the religion recognizes that the laws attributed to Moses incorporated the Pentateuch. However, the political part of Judaism is much related to King David, the king who had Judah as his capital and who planned the Jerusalem temple, which was later built by Solomon who was his son. During the period of the Jewish captivity in Babylon the Judaism religion was much consolidated, the Mosaic was also written during this period (Grabbe, 2000). The Jews believe that the difference between civil and divine law is not clear at all. They believe that the supreme power comes from God and thus the command of God is law, whether it is civil or religious. The Mosaic Law dates back to the 5th BC. This law was then interpreted by Midrash and the Talmud. The Talmud incorporates civil and religious laws that are not in the Torah as proper and thus goes ahead to explain them (Steinberg, 1965). The Jews firmly believe that they are the God’s chosen people who have the duty of shedding light to all other nations around the world. God made a covenant with the Jews through Abraham and later renewed the same covenant with Moses, Isaac and Jacob. The worship of Yahweh was mainly centralized in Jerusalem ever since the time of King David. The demolition of the 1st Jerusalem temple by the people of Babylon which was later followed by the Jews exile ushered in a new hope of national reinstallation under messiah leadership. The Persians later freed them from exile, but the rebellion failed against the Romans made the second temple to be destroyed and the subsequent dispersal of the Jews around the world (Grabbe, 2000). Judaism religion emerged to substitute the practices and beliefs linked with the Jerusalem temple, this was mainly because the Jews carried with them their religion and culture through their strict observance and via a scholarship of tradition. The greatest part of the commentaries and oral law were written down by the Mishna and Talmud. Judaism religion continued despite that it experienced very harsh persecutions by several nations around the world (Steinberg, 1965). The Judaism religion regards itself as a widespread religion; this is due to the fact that it views is laws to be appropriate for all mankind. It has a distinction between the non Jews and the Jews. The traditional Judaism requires all the Jews to follow all the commandments found in the Bible. On the other hand the non Jews should only follow seven laws out of the six hundred and thirteen laws. These seven laws demand that everyone whether a Jew or a non Jew to believe in only one God, they forbid murder, blasphemy, sexual immorality and theft. They also prevent anyone from feeding on a living creature’s limb. The seven laws also mandate the setting up of law courts. The Jews believe that, a non Jew who follows all the seven laws to be righteous, and is therefore, just like a Jew who follows all the six hundred and thirteen laws that are upon him (Fine, 2001). The fundamental orientation of Judaism is practical. It has no body of doctrine that is officially recognized, but it has various beliefs that are quite essential to all the Jews. The Jewish belief is rooted in the Jewish law and not in any systematic Theology. The issue about punishment and reward in life after death is a new development in this religion. Pre occupation and asceticism with life after death are discouraged. Redemption is obtained via good conduct and not through faith. Judaism believes that everyone has a duty to contribute towards perfecting this world (Steinberg, 1965). The practice of this religion of Judaism has never been restricted to only the people who were born of the Jewish community. However, the attitudes towards one being converted to Judaism have varied significantly in various localities and periods. It has always been doable for the non Jews to join Judaism. In fact, some of the greatest individuals of Judaism were either people who had been converted into Judaism or their descendants. A good example is King David; he was one of Ruth’s descendants. Since people hood and religion are quite inseparable in the religion of Judaism, acceptance of the beliefs of Judaism makes one to eventually become one of the Jewish people (Grabbe, 2000). Judaism emphasizes that each and every Jew should be responsible for the other and they should therefore live like one big community, this has made the Jews to develop a great sense of unity. No Jew should look at another Jew nonchalantly when he or she is suffering. They are required to do all that is possible to make sure that they alleviate such Jews from the suffering they are going through. Hebrew does not have charity, but it uses tsedakah which means justice. It means that it is only proper and just for those Jews who are blessed with more to share them with the less fortunate Jews in the society. The Jews mutual responsibility for each other stretches to include even violation of law cases: if a Jew finds another Jew violating the law, he or she is supposed to rebuke the Jew who is violating the law (Fine, 2001). Judaism religion also emphasizes on the need to elevate profane to the holiness state. Thus, most of what would have been considered ordinary includes ritual components which are intended to sanctify. For example, while eating there has to be benedictions before starting to eat the food and after eating it. This makes the table to be similar to the altar. Judaism has a lot of laws which are meant to regulate the daily life of the Jews; the aim of this regulation is to modify the actions of man into God’s service. Judaism also regards the restrictions of Torah myriad upon the conduct of a Jew as ones that elevates him. It views the uncontrolled expression of mankind’s appetite similar to that of the animals and the control measures placed upon mankind serves him by raising him higher. Thus, before a Jew eats any food, he has to first consider whether the food in question meets all the dietary law requirements. If it fails in any then he cannot proceed to eat it as he will consider doing so as violating the law (Fine, 2001). Asceticism is not considered as a virtue in Judaism. The Midrash provides that when everyone accounts for herself or him self following his or her death, such a person has to account for all the allowed pleasures of the world which he restricted himself from doing while on earth (Grabbe, 2000). Conclusion Judaism religion is mainly found in among the people of the Jewish nation but has never been restricted among these people only as it also accepts people from other origins to join them and thus practice the doctrines of the religion. The Jews, who are the members of Judaism, consider themselves to be the people who have been chosen by God and thus all other tribes in the world should follow them. The laws of the Jews, according to Judaism are applicable in all circumstances to all nations around the world which makes the Jews to claim that their religion is universal. Reference: Fine, L.
